In many cultures around the world, light symbolizes life due the eternal way of sun in the sky. in the other hand, night and shadows are typically associated with the unknown after death. Many ancient religions were founded on these basic principles until our days, but here light and shadow are the timeless circle of nature and culture through architecture.
Without sun there is no energy, neither gravity nor space. This monument for the sun works with a small hydro system power that slowly rotates its perforated facades to represent the timeless contrast of light and shadow.
Small scale hydro power is from industrial times an important energy source with multiple advantages over other forms of renewable energy, and if designed and installed correctly, has very few environmental risks. As the potential energy of flowing water is readily available, small scale hydro power systems can exploit this free energy providing a low cost and reliable source of “green electricity”. A river with enough water running through it at the right volume or pressure can feed a water turbine connected to a generator that will supply power for this monument.
