Who’s Next Design Competition
FreeGreen, an open source network for green homes, organized
a design competition calling for sustainable housing ideas. With less than 5%
of the homes in the U.S.
working directly with an architect, the competition presented a difficult but
admirable task for designers.
SubRural was designed to challenge the over-proportioned and
energy inefficient homes found in contemporary suburban and rural areas. With an environmentally friendly initiative, including a modest square footage and prefabricated
construction, the home is a redesign of American fascination with the
Mcmansion.SubRural intends to meet and exceed the passive
house standard while promoting a healthy and socially interactive atmosphere.
