We believe that the relevance of the work "Su Vertical nos retiene" is related to the following factors:
It is a public competition where Art and Architecture develop the same commission; a significant public space, a habitable sculpture. Winning first place in this proposal and its construction complete the perspective of a previously unfinished park. It is a place intended for public use, contemplation, and meeting of the users of a park in one of the most populated communes of Santiago.
The work represents a poem by the poet Gabriela Mistral (Nobel Prize in Literature) about the Cordillera, the vertical steel columns represent the Cordilleran profile and frame it, generating a unique symbolic and social space in Chile.
The work was developed and built in a record time of 5 months since it would be inaugurated together with the COOP 25 that was going to take place in the same park and was finally cancelled due to the constant protests after the social outbreak of October 18, 2019.
Today, after the pandemic, parks have become revalued spaces in their relevance to times of confinement. "Su Vertical nos retiene" is a geographical reference point, but above all, it is a meeting place, a public space with its own story about the culture of a nation and its territory.
