Silpakorn University Information Technology Campus in Petchburi opened its door for students from the southern part of Thailand in 1997. At that time Y2K bug was not yet arrived. The dot-com bubble was brewing on another side of the world. There was no Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, or Line. Online shopping just began. Information Technology was a serious business of the future.
Two decades had passed. Information technology even has much more applicable power than before. The university and its student need new tools to stay current and up to date. A new working environment has invented a new kind of communication skill, a new marketplace, a new entrepreneur. The IT hub will be the place for students to take full advantage of campus life. The space for trying things. Experimenting with ideas as inventor, maker, seller, and buyer. Learning as an individual and as a member of a team.
Situate at half way between dormitories and sports gymnasiums the building will house a Badminton court with retractable seating. Clubs of sports and activities such as taekwondo, yoga, music club, performance club, board games, and that of other interest of the students.
The ground floor will house a group of retail shops and an open-air market hall. A stepped terrace can be used for performance activity and as a relaxing place to sit and talk. Discussion and co-working on a project are encouraged.
From the outside, the building is a simple rectangular mass that sits on an open field across a sparse group of rain trees. Inside, u shape floor plan is arranged around the multipurpose space on the ground floor. The flowing curve of the space makes it as if nature is creeping in from outside of the building and occupied the area inside.
The Building is enveloped by see-through steel grate skin. This skin makes activities in the building observable from the outside. Glass wall fronted every room. The building will look and feel safe for students even if activities continue late into the night.
