Residential HouseConceived as an on-going collaboration between 3 former classmates, this project represents a personal first commission post-academia. The scope outlines a small residential house for a couple nearing retirement. Therefore, many of the initial developments were actual manifestations of personal desires that have accumulated over a lifetime. This house is seen as highly personal and tailored. On-going explorations into openness, efficiency, practicality and beauty have proven pivotal in the design processes. Ultimately, and perhaps more theoretically, the project is somewhat of a manifesto on current pedagogical and architectural cliches such as the fetishizations of materiality, space-making, and eco-design. Essentailly, by moving away from these paradigms, the project assesses the lifestyle of the clients as well as taking into direct consideration the limits of economy and means, efficient construction methods, and residential building codes. Thus, the final product (and design process) is a direct manifestation on the limits of multiple systems working simultaneously together.
