A few paces from the Singapore
River, the Studio M Hotel
is in the heart of the Clarke Quay, Boat Quay and Robertson Quay entertainment
districts. In this way, the hotel is
situated within a socially vibrant and highly visible context. The building borrows from its maritime
spirit. The building profile takes on a
prow like stance against the rectilinear massing of the adjacent structures,
giving it a nautical sense of movement. At the same time the design
incorporates an elevated deck with restaurant, bar, pool, and deck which
overlooks the river. While leaning on the rail, sipping a martini, and talking
to friends it is easy for guests to feel as though they are relaxing on the
deck of a luxury ocean liner. Together
these features collectively paint an image of a ship moored by the riverside. The rooms are designed as live-work-play spaces that cater to the
needs of urban travellers. Conceptualized as a “box within a box”, each 15m2
room is compact yet luxurious, with double volume space for added depth and
fully functional bathroom “pods” that can be easily reconfigured to create a
diversity of room types. A staircase leads up to the furniture deck that either
houses a bed or workstation, giving business travelers the added convenience of
computer facilities during their stay.
