Aalen’s residents who had previously benefitted from an unobstructed view into the countryside were very sceptical about the new building.
Two issues were therefore crucial to the concept of the residential home’s current shape:
1. The building should fit ideally into the surrounding development which is shaped by small buildings and
2. The students should have a new home that allows them to experience the community, that promotes communal life and in which communication plays a major part.
The result is a dorm with 7 houses and 56 housing units. A small "village" with alleys, squares and yards.
All community rooms are facing the other houses and the courtyards, allowing communication from one house to another or to a courtyard without problems. The other windows are aligned to achieve the highest level of quality as regards the light and the view in every room.
Different colours on different buildings improve orientation and also promote the identification with “one’s” house: the range of colours is playfully in line with the flower meadow directly in front of the buildings.
