Inspired by the idea of virtual networks and their connections between people, this installation is a representation of the many ways of connecting and meeting. String Theory was designed for the World Government Summit in Dubai, commissioned by the Dubai Future Foundation. The installation is an infographic in 3D form, based on data embedded in it, represented by the length of each string, designed using an algorithm which can be adapted to reflect selected data sets of relevance. Straight lines of string create levels of curvaceous surfaces when run between two planes, one being the ceiling and the other a complex curve suspended in space. The series of progressively changing curved members create a change in the curvature of the implied surface formed by the straight lines. A delicate, ethereal filigree lattice is formed, that is striking in its geometry and at once visually lightweight.
