Made in 2012, this large roof garden was fully rehabilitated from an incoherent mess into a lively, vibrant, useful outdoor living space for our young Brazilian couple clients. Set atop a modern penthouse with a 360-degree panorama over Central London, the abundance of iconic landmarks, sunshine & privacy are elevated by 3 distinct seating zones, a red custom-made kitchen, opulent lighting & a lush Mediterranean planting scheme.
Restoration entailed scaffolding, resurfacing, parking suspensions, a crane at restricted times, tiling, plumbing, decking, privacy screens, speakers, rotisserie, sink, storage, planting & irrigation. The 125 sqm expanse is zoned into a trio of roof gardens, each with its own surface, from tiles to hardwood then grass. A dining table, lounge sofas and sun loungers provide perching comfiness, where LED strip lighting amplifies the shadow gaps of steps leading up and down from the central deck.
Painted red, the large outdoor kitchen makes a great central outdoor hub for the sociable couple, cooking, entertaining & serving a wonderful cuisine. Redolent, textural, architectural plants from the Mediterranean region include Olive, Green Olive, 3 Palm species, Alpine mint, Mexican lilies, Phlomis, Euphorbia, Pseudopanax, Phormium, Libertia, Nerium & 2 Lavender hedges flanking the deck entrance. Japanese holly provides an excellent alternative to virus-prone Buxuxs, repeating entrance low hedges into the grassy zone.
The Royal Opera House, Shard, BT Tower, London Eye, Nelson's Column & High Holborn all feature in the vicinal skyline, framed by an architectural roof garden design teeming with sculptural focal points, bespoke features & dramatic lighting. Predominantly evergreen and low-maintenance, the planting sustains year-round presence which is hassle-free for our busy city full-timers, their friends & family.
