This mountainside project includes the design of a main house, guest house, and landscape. The crafted views and gardens looking up the mountain are given equal importance to the large views of the valley below. The site design reflects the intent of the buildings to frame views of the dynamic rock formations, the marriage of natural and crafted landscapes, and the thoughtful use of water in a desert setting. The extensive program requirements necessitated a large house, but the design approach was to provide a comfortable scale for each of the spaces, create thoughtful transitions between and tie them specifically to gardens and views. The comprehensive work involved design at all scales- from the design of door hardware to the design of the buildings, to the layout of the entire site.
