Stockholm was a design competition entry for a sustainable stock home plan. Stockholm is a home organized around a communal area that promotes free movement and visual spatial openness. It is also a plan that recognizes the human desire for a sense of place. In architectural terms, light is shadow, reflectivity, and warmth. This home's communal area is space divided by light. Stockholm is a two story house organized on an east-west axis enveloped in a wooden shell. This shell is in the form of a rainscreen made from reclaimed wood. This screen primarily protects from the elements, but it also shades and separates space. The outer appearance provides texture and color to the north and south facades. The shell's interior is exposed when framed walls terminate and the shell extends beyond, or when movable panels are closed at certain locations and open at others.
