Taking ingredients from Greenpoint’s historical wood framed townhouses – wood cladding, masonry base, double hung windows with flower boxes – this project re-shuffles elements of its context while focusing on resilience. At street level, the house’s masonry creates a social garden-room at the sidewalk’s edge with terraced brickwork in the spirit of the historical stoop. Windowpanes establish a grided organization of cedar panels and battens, which is echoed in the interior trim as a framework for the clients’ collections and artworks.
