This two-story wooden house is consisted of 1st floor: the owners’ apartment and 2nd floor: rental rooms. By varying the floor height of the rental rooms, it creates rooms with of varying ceiling heights on the 1st floor. By a simple volumetric maneuver, it creates a space of different scale creating a rhythm to the everyday life. In addition, the varying height of the 2nd floor rooms results in rooms full of light and wind passage like a corner room. The 1st floor uses the earth as a heat-sink, which is heated by nighttime electricity (financially economical then day time) which then works as heated floor. During winter it creates a comfortable environment anywhere on the first floor.
