Nowadays, cities are developing rapidly with high density. The service facilities in the urban process are gradually improving, but public space is extremely tense. As the ubiquitous gas stations in cities, their strong "Not In My Back Yard effect" also brings many problems.
The supporting facilities with a single function do not meet the needs of future urban development. Our design purpose is to break the traditional isolated urban supporting facilities in the form of a large stepped roof, eliminate the disconnected relationship between the building and the site, and create a mutually shared multi-functional service center. The steps are the roof, the facade and the public platform. What it shelters, uplifts and presents are people, and thus the building acquires civic nature.
We name this project "Step Garden". The design connects the three-dimensional cultural park through steps and extends nature into it. The design creates the possibility of various activities, eliminates the disconnected relationship between the building and the site, turns "Not In My Back Yard" into "Beneficial To Neighbors", and integrates into the block and the city with a positive attitude. On the premise of meeting the infrastructure of the gas station, it truly becomes a public space that accommodates citizens' activities.
In the future, we hope this will be a modern and efficient urban supporting facility combined with nature and urbanism. Through design empowerment, redefine the "Future Gas Station".
