This is a store design of the Israeli Story chain, a unique concept company that tells a story behind every brand it brings. A well-known company holding onto values of truth.
We were chosen as the interior designers of the new concept the idea to create a new store designed for shoes only and called Step by: Story. The thinking behind the design idea- to nod to the visual language of the chain's stores (which includes the use of industrialized materials, a grid of tiles) and to create a new concept that speaks to what the new store is about, landing here in Israel for the first time.
The story behind the design concept focuses on the moment of the meeting between the foot on the ground/sand, and what that meeting produces immediately after- the imprint of the foot or the sole of the shoe and the pleasant and powerful feeling of stepping on the ground.
We wrapped the store in material that gives a natural look and an organic feel with form following form. The feeling one gets is one of organic movement in the combination of industrial items that connect to each other in a harmonious way and tell the story of the store.
The store was designed in a modular and functional way with a removable modular frame that can be changed and replaced with details designed and manufactured especially for the store. The combination of industrial materials that include threaded rods from the building world and exposed profiles that give an industrialized look create contrast with the organic language of the soft space.
In the center of the space we placed two elements intended for display and seating for fitting shoes that combine several types of materials in a sculpted element with the purpose of signaling that this is a special place staged for selecting shoes.
The challenges we faced in this project were around the physical distance from what was happening and how to manage by remote control (We flew twice to the inspect and follow progress), and in addition, the short schedule we faced for planning and execution in only a month and a half.
