'station NEO' is a leading co-working office incubating deep tech startups in South Korea. The ultimate goal of Archi@Mosphere is to create a space enables flexible communication and synergy effect between tripartite; station NEO, startups and supporter. We create an environment where active synesthetic interaction occurs between members through offering a new form of co-working office where Korean unique sentiment applied in.
These days, 'Seongsu-dong' is a booming business district in metropolis Seoul but the ordinary building where 'station NEO' located has some matters; low ceiling height, darken atmosphere, low-efficient environment for office. So, we embodied the Korean sentiment in communal space by overlapping small pocket spaces and make it connect to circulation, so they can use it as a ‘communication hall’ which also minimizes dead space.
To enhance interaction frequencies between users, we located several courtyards that aligned along a vertical axis to the rooftop. Also, we set each small pocket spaces to meet more than two sides to communal space so people can enjoy abundant sunlight while working. The opaque penetrability of 'lexan polycarbonate' which applied as a priority material ensured personal privacy, and abundant sunlight deeply penetrates into the space so it naturally extends users' cognitive to a space than solid-wall system. Also, the combination of inside-wall-lights is enhancing the surreal atmosphere of the space. The application of inexpensive lexan carbonate and stud-wall system together has solved the limited budget precisely.
We thought that the design considering the Korean cultural environment and the emotional environment of Koreans was the beginning of the station NEO co-working space project design, and the results of this effort are being benchmarked by many co-working space operators. Eventually, the new approach we tried is becoming a standard for Korean-style co-working space is a great pride for us and society as well.
