Starring Trondheim! Atelier houses.
Main goal is to make a building, that generates a kick-start for the
rest of the Svartlamoen area. The building is deliberately kept small to
create space for a lively inner world inside the urban housing block.
Here a lunchroom with terrace can be found where artists show their
work. A passage runs from Strandveien to the inner world. The passage
continues underneath the train track to the artists workshops connecting
both sides.
The project site is bordered on both sides by existing buildings. The
in-between space is divided into three zones. Zone 1 is cut away which
creates the passage (from small to wide) and gives the building its
sliced shape. Zone 2 is the climate zone on the south side of the
building and can be used as inside as well as outside area. Surplus heat
will be stored for later use in the seasonal thermal system. Zone 3 are
the studios and apartments with flexible floor plans.
Big and smaller units for studios and apartments with flexible floor
plans. The units are based on a grid of 3,6m wide. Floor plans can vary
according to the changing needs of people and way of living. Every unit
is fitted out with two installation shafts.
‘The Slice’ will be build of massive Norwegian 100% wooden walls and
floors. Prefabricated vertical and horizontal wood elements are densely
layered, without gaps, to become solid and compact construction
elements.
