Stadium Tuiliere

STATUS
Concept
SIZE
100,000 sqft - 300,000 sqft
The stadium Tuilière is a 12.000 spectator football stadium which fulfils all the regulations of FIFA and all the today’s needs of commodity for spectators, media, VIP and of course for the players, the clubs and referees. The stadium is positioned to the existing topography with a minimum of changes, to develop a stadium which takes the sloping from southwest to northeast as a base for how its accessibility is organized.

Five main distinct elements form a conglomerate functional and visual entity which creates the characteristic appearance of the stadium. Each one of these elements has its specific form and function. The stadium is ‘naked’, explicit, structural and therefore easy to understand. It shows all the constituencies of the football stadium as visually independent elements. Nothing is hidden. All Elements are conceived to allow for changes and small adaptions occurring during the use of the stadium. The stadium is not a total design object, but a construction can adapt with its use and appearance to the context and over time. Here’s what the five elements are about:

Bowl: perfect view, as close to the pitch as possible, looking bigger, good acoustics, no wind, indoor atmosphere. Rough concrete structure, made of prefabricated concrete stands and ‘scissors’ pillars. when you enter in the bowl you enter a completely different environment where your attention is directed to a happening on a field.

Building: efficient organization of the very different parts of the FIFA organogram. Strong connection to the plaza hosting and creating everyday life on the outside when there is no matches.

Roof: strong visual element from the inside as well as from the outside. The roof is made of laminated wood. Its surface is a patchwork of light cupolas, opaque supports for scissors pillars, artificial lighting and photovoltaic panel. The gridded roof has a very strong presence on all sides of the stadium. It appears as being placed over the bowl and the building. The inner perimeter of the gridded roof supports the ring with lighting for the pitch and fixed acoustic panels which prevent the transmission of noise from the stadium to the surroundings.
Foyer: Common sheltered space outside the bowl for social interaction and necessities as toilets and food booths. Simple structure as object in itself, but extravagant section in combination with the bowl.

Athletic track: Function of a freely accessible running track whenever there is no big event. Serves as a zone for emergency vehicles during events.
