Built in 1968 as a medical office building and purchased by the school in 1996, this building required extensive seismic and ADA upgrades, as well as complete renovation and rehabilitation for use as a middle school campus. Based on the 2004 master plan by Pfau Long, the building’s façade was redesigned, while interior spaces and building systems were re-purposed for classrooms, study/teaching labs, a library, administrative offices, teacher’s lounge, and a top floor art studio space with both indoor and outdoor work space.
Emphasis was placed on creating internal circulation spaces that enhance the day-to-day student activity. The administration areas were designed for maximum efficiency and incorporates a more welcoming entrance and lobby for the public. The building’s new façade creates an inviting street presence and was redesigned using similar materials that correlate to the school’s K-6 campus located two blocks away.
