Looking to showcase the tremendous untapped value in Toronto’s older condominiums, Rad Design Inc redefined a drab and dated 600 sf unit in downtown Toronto into a contemporary living environment. The challenge was to achieve a fresh, modern look, with the lowest possible budget, to highlight spaces with similar potential to future investors and owners. The condo was initially gutted completely and now features newly updated floors and wall surfaces as well as a renovated kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.
The glass wall that divides off the bedroom, used to have an odd cut off corner, which was squared off. The thick ‘yellowed’ framing was replaced by a very thin stainless steel frame only to the top and bottom for stability of the acid etched translucent glass, for privacy. The edges of the glass wall, on the living room side, are exposed and cut to fit around the baseboard. The left side extends slightly past the door and the wall above it, as an added detail. And to add a ‘loft’ touch, a wall mount system supports the glass sliding door, which opens to the dining room, with stainless steel hardware.
The kitchen was completely rebuilt using high gloss lacquered cabinetry for a modern look, all new white appliances to match, a white faucet and square profile sink complete the look. White, but textured tiles were used for the backsplash to add some texture to the sleek kitchen, while keeping the overall colour scheme minimal and clean.
The bathroom received new tiles, vanity, and a frameless glass shower door to complete the new modern space.
