St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School at Freshwater involves a 3 phase master plan. Eight classrooms and amenities are placed over an existing playground, classrooms and hall. Providing, maintaining and enhancing visual connections throughout the site was a main focus point.
The new GLA building consists of four new classrooms constructed over an existing playground. The project was recently completed. Each classroom is interconnected with breakout sliding doors to a covered outdoor learning area. A new limited mobility lift servicing this new facility.
The classrooms and breakout spaces are designed for flexible learning. The rooms are able to be transformed into large communal environments when required, through the use of sliding doors. This allows smaller learning environments to still be maintained. The wet breakout area provides students with a more “hands-on” space, where the students are able to learn through doing.
