Saint Barnabas Medical Center, an affiliate of Barnabas Health, is the oldest and largest non-profit and nonsectarian hospital in New Jersey. Selected for the medical center’s expansion and renovation plans, Francis Cauffman worked with the hospital to design a wide range of diagnostic and treatment spaces. In addition, the growing maternity needs of the hospital were addressed with a complete replacement 56-bassinet NICU focusing on light, sound and safety controls, replacement of the existing CS suite with related support, expanded private-room model Triage Unit and a restructured antepartum inpatient unit for family and patient comfort. As a “specialized OB center,” the hospital is known for its capacity to manage complex pregnancies and post-birth care.
