The Sprint Mobile Health Accelerator is a venture powered by the Sprint Corporation, dedicated to the growth of the tech sector and entrepreneurship in Kansas City. The Accelerator is a beacon for entrepreneurship in the region, bringing startups from around the world into Kansas City to work on the future of mobile health technology. Sprint co-locates engineering talent, executive mentors and other technical resources to ensure these startups have an "unfair advantage" against the rest of the industry.
Sprint tasked RMTA to create a place that would inspire and promote work-life balance; a place where people would want to be. Built in 1903 as an ice house, the 12,000 square feet second floor underwent significant renovations while retaining the building’s original, natural charm to accommodate a wide variety of activities within three distinct sections:
• Community space: Filled with soft seating and high top working tables, the community space is open to members of the entrepreneurial community to meet with investors, clients and mentors or for plugging in to get a little work done.
• Co-working: For members of the Accelerator and close strategic partners, there are private work stations and 24/7 access to the area. Sprint employees and close partners like Silicon Prairie News and UP Global, among others, call the Sprint Accelerator their home.
• Accelerator space: With private conference rooms, recreational space, pitch areas and a large open “office” area that can be set up with desks or event seating, the top floor is home to the Sprint Mobile Health Accelerator.
During the months when the Accelerator is not in session, the space will host civic and community meet-ups, investor courses, entrepreneurial training and a variety of other events continuing the flow of ideas and resources to Kansas City and the downtown core.
