Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital

The relocation of Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital provides a brand new facility for patients who undergo fertility treatment and other day surgery procedures. This new Day Hospital is located within a purpose built medical building opposite St Andrews Hospital in Spring Hill, Brisbane.
8i Architects was engaged by Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital to design the new 3 theatre Day Hospital with a Central Sterile Supply Department incorporating best practice patient centred design and clinical workflow. The facility is owned by Virtus Health – a global leader of assisted reproductive services, day surgeries and reproductive genetics. The design of the facility reflects Virtus’s position as a leader in the field.
As a Day Hospital that is linked to Queensland Fertility Group, Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital provides services to fertility, IVF and gynaecological patients, as well as other procedures such as dental and endoscopy.
This project was specifically designed to incorporate the views of Brisbane’s CBD, Spring Hill and Victoria Park. The external views provide a welcome distraction for patients and staff in what can be an emotional and stressful experience. Patient experience was a critical driver for the design by incorporating natural light and views wherever possible. This important point of difference has been received positively by patients and staff.
The patient journey was specifically designed to ensure movement within the Day Hospital is a single circular flow that starts and ends within the waiting room. The simple workflow design is in contrast to many hospitals, where complex workflows create wayfinding confusion for staff and patients. The clinical workflow ensures patient care and best practice infection control standards are of the highest priority.
A close working relationship was established with 8i Architects, the Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital team and Shape Australia builders to ensure the quality of the project aligned with client expectations.
