A quiet complexity exists in a Victorian warehouse, which is reinvented as a five-story family residence with only the front facade retained.
Two light wells are created through the building to maximize the south-facing natural light and allow it deep into the narrow floor plate. Quiet ideas run through the project with careful brick detailing and the creative organization of the interior spaces. The essence of the existing building is celebrated with care and attention to material choices such as handmade bricks, Douglas Fir, Crittall windows and lime render which sit harmoniously with the existing Victorian warehouse facade. It was important that the new rear elevation sat quietly in the eclectic terrace of modified elevations to the rear, celebrating this rather than exposing the shortcomings.
