Spectra Raaya is an upcoming premium apartment complex at Whitefield located 45kms from the Bengaluru International Airport. The experience center comprises of a marketing unit as well as a model flat. The front setback area of the linear site was identified for the experience center, such that the entry to the site faces south. The site is largely surrounded by open lands and a few buildings.
INTERPRETING THE THEME True to its name -‘Raaya’, the experience center reflects the harmonious amalgamation of design for a distinguished, modern lifestyle with the luxury of vibrant, green, open spaces in a concrete jungle that is Bengaluru. An example of understated poise, this project effortlessly blurs the indoor and outdoor division. The allocated site is designed into three zones, in part to allow the user to experience it fully, and to also divide the two main functions – conversation and experience. The first zone retains the access to the construction site, the central zone houses the marketing office and the rear zone is set aside for the model flat.
THE THREE ZONES
Zone 1 is the access to the construction site, although not a part of the experience center, forms part of the blank canvas that is the entrance. Stoic, white walls are cut by greenery and design elements that call back parts of the logo of the project.
A Zen pool greets the visitor at the entrance of Zone 2, drawing in cool breezes and the calming effect of rippling water sets the tone for the rest of the experience. Thoughtful placement of every design element not only elevates the space, but also draws the focus towards an expansive, uncluttered finish.
The journey of the user is through a series of volumes. Moving through the spaces towards Zone 3, which is the model flat, the height of each space is strategically dropped to prepare the user to an exaggerated sense of arriving home as they move towards it.
AESTHETICS MADE FUNCTIONAL
Establishing a stunning visual contrast in the entire palette is the wooden textured ceiling, most visible in the overhangs that re-iterates the philosophy of form following function. The roof extensions act as coverage over the waiting lounge and blocks much of the heat during the day permitting for more open externalboundaries – glass frames and minimal space dividers – ensuring a constant look-out to the meticulous landscaping all around and also to the apartment complex being completed in the background. Boundary walls on the southern side are higher, providing visual relief as well as blocking the harsh mid-day sunlight.
The shallow water body and the creepers becomes the barrier between the construction site and the experience center. The shades of green in the water body accentuate the greenery all around. Creepers and repetitive grills block the construction from the experience center while also delivering a preview of what is to come.
AN EXAMPLE OF ELEGANT MINIMALISM
As the ceiling becomes the highlight, other textural elements are kept to a minimum – the somber grey floor and muted white walls simply acting as backdrops to pops of green. Deliberate and subtle mirroring of the material palette used for the over-all project lets the builder re-use the experience center as a pavilion in the future – a community space abundant with verdant greenery acting as a trailer to the living experience within the apartment complex. Furniture and movables were re-purposed from a previous project on the back of the same philosophy of re-use and timelessness. A focal point in the marketing unit is a tall white canvas at right fore with a few inscriptions - Design, Living, Built - an essence of the whole complex captured into tangibles.
The experience center cocoons the user while they contemplate a future in this complex, constituting both context and familiarity - the subtle psychology of the perception of this space is used to an advantage by creating this divergent oasis of greenery and warmth in the foreground of a busy construction site.
