Fugère Architecture conceived this family home to be built on a former agricultural site in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures near Quebec City.
In order to harmoniously integrate this contemporary project into its rural environment, FA proposes a volume that evokes the typical constructions of the surrounding houses and buildings. The Sparking House is wrapped in a silver metal sheet ‘à la canadienne’ that reflects its environment and makes it fit perfectly into the landscape. The house only opens on the St-Lawrence River side so visitors approaching from the road only perceive a glistering point in the sun.
The volume turns slightly to the West to allow the calming effects of the horizon and the serenity of the river to invade the interior spaces. This orientation also allows the sun to enter the common areas throughout the day.
The first floor consists in a minimalist open space filled with the grandeur of the landscape, while the lower level hosts private rooms sheltered by the ground.
