The architecture competition concerns the design of a teleported connection called TELEPHERIQUE URBAIN SUD on the three ONCOPOLE - CHU RANGUEIL - UPS sites in Toulouse (France).
Gondola lifts and cable cars are essentially perceived as systems reserved for the transport of skiers of ski resorts. In fact, they are an integral part of the mountainous landscapes of France. In urban areas, other modes of transport contribute to the city's identity through successful integration and acceptance, such as the historic Lisbon tramway.
Aerial cable transport has potentially similar advantages in giving access to new landscapes, bringing a new dimension, not only to daily travel, but also to urban space.
The choice of a cable transportation system, like any other mode of transport, is largely dependent on the long-term vision of the urban and suburban transport network in which it will have to be. The transport project will have to anticipate changes in the territory, in a global prospective vision.
The carousel "Funitel" includes 23 cabins online. On cable, the cabins are spaced 346 meters and 58 seconds for a nominal speed of 6 m/s.
The three stations have on their transverse axis a marked functional dissymmetry. They all have an urban facade facing the facilities they serve and a landscaped facade free of construction and opened to unobstructed views. This remarkable arrangement, combined with the functional features of the “Funitel”, led us to equip them with mono-docks without crossing the line (input / output at the dock facing the served equipment).
The materials are simple, rough, implemented on a minimalist notebook with sobriety, care and rigor. Raw concrete, "living" steel, glass. The marked colors are left at the signage.
