The concept for this residential alteration and addition was to pare back the fussiness of the existing Victorian residence and at the same time celebrate its stately proportions.
The addition is limited to extending the kitchen and dining area at the ground level into the rear yard. The basic palate is monochromatic and the new detailing is minimal. This has allowed prominence to the family’s art and furniture which imbues the interior with a frenetic vibrancy.
Materially the addition is minimal in nature with aluminium framed glazing and painted matrix panel cladding, it projects outward under an existing detailed lacework balcony and veranda. It is rightfully subservient to the existing facade in terms of proportion and detail and it suggests the contemporary refurbishment within.
