Recent years have shown the design community’s increased interest in vertical food growing, often represented by two polarized solutions: soil-based green walls on one end of the continuum and utopian visions of high-tech (and high first-cost) building-integrated, hydroponic vertical farms on the other. This research project develops a lightweight, low-tech, cost-efficient vertical hydroponic greenhouse (VG) system as an implementable next step in the investigation of high-yield agriculture in a vertical application. Park ‘N Grow is a new VG prototype optimized for constructability, plant productivity, and economic viability and enhancement of our urban environments. 1,620 SF planting area in 6 vertical hydroponic modules @ 30’ x 9’ x 1’
