SEC’s new 15,000sqm further education campus will provide vocational training facilities in the South Essex area and act as a catalyst for improving the quality of the built environment and open spaces in Grays town centre. The teaching accommodation will be incorporated in two main buildings linked by a central landscaped area, with public footways running through the centre of the college to establish the town centre linkage. Whilst different in overall scale and form, both buildings are designed with a common language of materials, proportion and detail, including the use of coloured reveals to feature entrances and windows. Rainwater harvesting and roof-level PV solar panels will form part of the strategy for achieving a BREEAM “excellent” rating.
