Soundtrack commissioned this 8700-sq.-ft. facility on two floors of a midtown loft building as part of its strategy to diversify from records and commercials to film and television. It contains two mixing studios and a dubbing/sound effects studio, as well as a reception area, producers’ lounges, offices, exhibition gallery, and a skylit atrium for meals and breaks. Frosted glass at the storefront gives privacy to the lounges behind. PB+A also designed the lighting and specified acoustic isolation for the facility.
After the studios were completed, Soundtrack asked for more seating space in the atrium. Structural glass platforms step up from the atrium floor, providing space above a stair while transmitting light to the lower level.
