The project was renovating CGV Cinema Theater in Chungdam by installing SUBPAC system. SUBPAC is a wearable device that transfers sound wave into vibration and makes user to experience the sound as if standing in front of huge speaker. Watching movie in SUBPAC Theater provides audience a whole experience.
Visualization of sound and vibration was the design keyword. In the space we tried to provide visitors to experience sound through visual effects. Fragmented mirror is installed on the main façade of the hall. 36 pieces of triangular stainless polished panel is fixed on the wall in different angles embodies sound wave. Colorful lighting installed on ceiling reflects on the mirror wall and scattered in all direction adding a unique look in the space.
The wall opposite the fragmented mirror is finished with brick and corroded metal panel. The rough texture of the brick and corroded metal is also reflected and distorted on the mirror wall. Product information is inscribed on transparent Acryl board that stands between the elevator doors. Product showcase table is set in the middle of the hall. The table is designed to look as it’s hanged by four poles fixed on the table corner. On the floor, black and white floor tile spreads in equalizer pattern.
Each of the two theater is composed with 76 seats including two handicapped seating. The seating is designed to fit on the body so that the vibration is effectively delivered to the body. Each seating is fixed keeping enough distance to help the audience to feel more involved in the film.
