This is the extension project of old
Japanese style house in mountain village. This family’s land is situated on the
highest place among their neighbors. The main house was built about 50 years
ago, typical Japanese style of this legion.
Client required “warm house”. This narrow
land exist on the North side of the mountain, so it’s not easy to take the
sunlight in sufficiently. To solve that, extension part was bended to encircle
the small sunny garden.
New part looks like growing from
rectangular house. Old part is ruled by right angles and vertical lines, but
when you enter new part, lines start to be bended by free angles.
Angles were defined by the sun and contours
of the mountain. Movement of the house activates human behavior inside and
outside.
Before the project, we’ve glanced over
mountains just as a view. After, Nature started to get in through windows
lively. Client says, “We’ve never known that we have been living in such a
beautiful land!”
