Songjungsang Ranch is a Korean beef butcher's restaurant in a parking lot building located in the city along the Misa River in Hanam. Parking lots and neighborhood living facilities are planned for this project on the parking lot site. Since neighborhood living facilities can be installed on the parking lot site up to 30% of the total floor area in accordance with the district unit planning guidelines, the design was focused on meeting the commercial use required by the owner within the given legal conditions. On the first floor, a butcher's restaurant was arranged and planned as a front window to contrast the parking lot's elevation, enhancing the customer's cognitive and accessibility, and parking lots were arranged from the second floor to the top floor to satisfy the legal area. And the difference between Songjungsang Ranch and other parking lot buildings is that the entire first floor is planned as a single neighborhood living facility at the request of the owner. However, the room was planned to be divided in consideration of future sales and leases, and
this becomes an important point to become a sustainable building over time even though the purpose of the building changes.
There are three main types of facades. The first is a solid concrete wall that considers parking noise and civil complaints, and the second is a vertical and horizontal linear aluminum louver and sheet to overcome the monotony of the parking lot facing the road, and finally, the transparent and wide window of the butcher's restaurant on the first floor above the ground. The building's main façade, aluminum louvers and sheets, create a variety of depth by changing shadows during the day, and at night, they create colorful elevations that sparkle by the illuminated light that is beamed among
the louvers. These elevations maximize the symbolism of the building with the motif of the origin of the mass of an island made of beautiful waves and sand.
< Arcade >
On the first floor above the ground, an arcade was built facing the front road, rather than a legal landscape or an empty outdoor space. Although this arcade is an element included in the building, it is also open to pedestrians passing by without using a butcher's shop or parking lot. Through the arcade, the interaction between the building and the road or pedestrian occurs, which creates a landscape of the street.
Despite the fact that Songjungsang Ranch is a parking lot building, these architectural elements combine to naturally lead to the flow of nearby store houses and form a harmonious and colorful urban landscape of the Misa River city.
