The new building designed by the 314 architecture studio, is situated in Voula. The building exhibits a dynamic and sculptural form with a variety of elements, creating a play of shadows and light.
With the excessive use of large, sweeping curves, the design gives the building a fluid and organic feel. One distinctive element of the design is its extensive use of natural materials, particularly wood, which is evident in the vertical slats that wrap around parts of the building. These slats not only provide aesthetic appeal but also serve as sunshades, enhancing the building's environmental efficiency and providing a play between light and shadow.
A combination of concrete and wood is prominent. The concrete elements provide structural stability and a modern, sleek appearance, while the wood elements soften the overall aesthetic, adding warmth and texture. Glass is also used extensively, likely to maximize natural light and create a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The incorporation of greenery, such as plants and trees within the building's design, adds to its organic feel and enhances its integration with the natural environment. The presence of plants on various levels suggests a focus on creating a healthy, sustainable living environment.
The roof has a wave-like, undulating form, which not only adds a unique architectural feature but also reflects natural forms, inspired by ocean waves and rolling landscapes. The emphasis on natural materials, the incorporation of greenery, and the organic forms all point towards a biophilic design approach. This design philosophy aims to connect occupants more closely with nature, promoting well-being and sustainability. The use of wood slats and the open, airy design suggest influences from tropical architecture, which often incorporates elements to mitigate heat and enhance ventilation.
