Located within the heart of Downtown Oakland, SoleSpace is a retail space by day and community event space by night. SIZL worked collaboratively to create a family of integrated flexible elements: solid GEOBOX , frame GEOBOX, L Shelf, and Flex Hang. This project accommodates an extreme variety of programs while using affordable construction methods. Through optimization of digital fabrication tools and development of a modular strategy, this project successfully maximizes material use, reduces installation time, and creates a design that is flexible and robust.
GEOBOX:
A reconfigurable system of mobile elements designed by SIZL as flexible display, seating and space making. The GEOBOX can rotate, stack, and flip in multiple directions allowing for variation and multiplicity of patterns. With equal depth and width dimensions and concealed attachments for stability, the GEOBOX is optimized for opportunity.
