Paul Housberg’s Solar Passage is comprised of 1,200 fused and hand-painted glass tiles made for the lobby of a corporate office building in Washington, D.C. Fabricated by Bullseye Studio, this wall of candescent colored tiles spans 39’ across and 22’ high.
For this project, Bullseye Studio kilnformed glass blanks of assorted transparent colors that were then hand-painted with enamels by Housberg during a working session in the fabrication studio. After a second firing, the painted blanks were mirrored for increased depth and opacity and cut into tiles. Housberg strategically mapped the placement of each tile within the artwork.
