The apartment complex is located at the central part of Moscow city and has a very specific environment. From one of the sides the site is bordered by a natural green forest, which is the historical park "Sokolniki," but on the opposite – there is a noisy highway and a railway hub. Our challenge was to highlight the positive characters of the site and minimize the negative ones. And at the same time to reflect the spirit of the place, its polarity - a huge green oasis surrounded by a crowdy city.
Contrast is the main theme. Glass and brick, mixed together, changing the level of facade transparency. Along the way of movement, depending on the view angle, the building dynamically changes its appearance. The tower could be glass-transparent, or completely brick-solid.
The history of the place, park itself is connected with the royal falconry, which was organized here in the 16th century. So, the name "Sokolniki" (in Russian sounds similar to “Falkon”) was given to the place thanks to that fact. Design of the building is inspired by the legend. From the park side there is a glass part of the complex (all apartment windows come out here), reflecting the natural beauty of "Sokolniki": forest and sky. And on the opposite side we designed a brick wall with silhouette of flying falcons on it, creating a glowing pattern at night. Also, from the street side building silhouette reminds a floating falcon.
The building designed in the maximum possible height (75 meters, 21 floors based on regulations), to create a local high-rise dominant and to provide panoramic views on the historical park.
Basing on the visual analysis we discovered the most advantageous views for the orientation of apartment windows. In that way we get a complex volume of the building with planning solutions where residential numbers are oriented to the park, and all other rooms, including staircases and elevator hall, to transport hub. Plans got variations – the higher level, the bigger apartments.
Ground floor of the building forms a closed inner yard, providing to the territory a degree of privacy and public space. Also, some retail and multifunction rooms are placed here. There is an arch in a yard, a kind of internal window, opened towards the park "Sokolniki." Parking is organized on the lower level.
