In the heart of Beijing, the SOHO GALAXY is quickly
becoming a new landmark for the city. Zaha Hadid Architects designed the
project which is inspired by ancient Chinese terraced rice fields. The
fountains JML Water Feature Design has designed reflect the curving and weaving architectural
details while adding various water effects. It offers a sensory experience and
allows the public to admire the building with tailored lighting.
JML Water Feature Design's collaboration led to 10
striking water features. Each of them has been designed to entice people to
admire the surroundings while also having a memorable experience. Dynamic
parabolic laminar jets echo the fluid lines of the architecture. The water
mirrors have been designed to pay tribute to the building and each water feature
creates a different ambiance that fits its surroundings. The presence of water
brings warmth to the project, creating a space where the public can relax and
enjoy the architecture.
One of the main highlights is the interactive nature
of the fountains. The main water feature is a hallway of jets that
"jump" from one side to the other. The public is invited to play and
touch the water, creating a bond between the visitors and the architecture. The
water jets are dynamic and naturally entice people to come closer to take part
in the show.
"The
water skins we have designed can be purged in only few minutes and once purged
can be used as a normal walking surface by the public. Also, they reflect the
modern architecture of Zaha Hadid. In other words, this project leverages the
visual impact of the architecture by reproducing and multiplying it in the
reflections of the pools." explains Stéphane Llorca, Director JML.
