Social1 - A Soviet Story
We designed Social1 inside a classic Socialist Style building that was designed and completed during the communist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu.
The location is situated in front of the Palace of Parliament (former People's House - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_the_Parliament), the largest administrative
building in Europe and one of the landmarks of Communism in Eastern Europe.
With such a strong socialist-imposing architecture we looked for a design that integrates modern restaurant concepts with the reminiscences of history.
We came up with the Social1 concept as a space for socializing and good food that gets inspiration from the classy, uptown, moments of communism.
This is why we integrated in the design all the architectural details that could be restored: vintage marble floorings, lime-stone facades, hidden radiator and ventilation systems
and the lovely ceiling soffits. We kept a sober line with dark painted paneling and chairs, and added color details with table toppings and decorations.
In terms of wall finishings we used classic materials from back in the days: pattern roll-paint was one of our favorites, as it was present in everyone's houses.
We also used textured calcium paint, vintage recovered mirrors and textured glass.
The space has 170 sqm and it can accommodate 95 people, with the two central bars as a major entertainment spot.
