(I already apologize for the image quality but the original project was made by hand and i tried to give the idea through a couple of quick sketchup images)My pavillion has been created to accomodate two students attending the academy of arts and it’s located on the point of the city of Sirmione’s peninsula, on the Lake Garda. Its shape is an half-octagon of 60 sqm, including a patio of 15 sqm which is a smaller octagon, specular and equal to the outside terrace.I created a patio as a reminder to the case study “Villa Figini” analized: it’s a place which is enclosed inside the house, not covered, like a private garden. I also decided to use white concrete and ribbon windows, elements which are present also in the case study. The patio is the central core of the house, all the rooms are developed around it, but that’s not the only reason of the octagonal shape: it reminds the shape of the peninsula where it is located, it fits the lakeshore in front of it and I developed it in this way in order to put each room in the best location it could have according to the cardinal points and the sunlighting. The roof is plan because the area is just a few meters higher than the sea level and massive precipitations of snow are not frequent there. From the outside terrace is possible to see the old ruins of ‘Grotte di Catullo’, an old roman villa built in the I century. In the furniture arrangement I took care about the possible needs of the two students: big and high desks and tables, and a patio which can be a perfect location for drawing. Furthermore the big ribbon windows and the outside terrace give the opportunity to appreciate beautiful landscapes, which can be useful for artists and better appreciated by them.
