Sloane Street, London, has been reimagined by John McAslan + Partners (JMP) for Cadogan, in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, as a people-focused, ecologically rich “green boulevard”. Extending one kilometre between Knightsbridge and Sloane Square, the project represents the most significant transformation of the street in almost 250 years. Formerly dominated by traffic and deteriorating pavements, the route now offers an elegant, welcoming and climate-responsive public realm that integrates seamlessly with one of the world’s leading luxury retail destinations and a thriving residential community.
The masterplan widens pavements by 23%, introduces over 100 new trees and extensive seasonal planting, and establishes generous amenity zones that encourage dwell time, sociability and safe movement. A bespoke palette of Yorkstone paving, handcrafted granite planters, brass detailing and Arts-and-Crafts-inspired lighting reinstates a strong sense of place rooted in heritage and craftsmanship.
Delivered through a multi-disciplinary team including JMP as lead designer and masterplanner, Andy Sturgeon Design as landscape partner, WSP as engineer and Gardiner & Theobald as project manager and QS, the £46m scheme balances environmental performance with commercial vitality. It secures Sloane Street’s future as a globally significant boulevard that is both resilient and distinctly London.
