SLC Masterplan, Porto Algre, BrasilLCE were approach to develop ideas for the regeneration of a site within the city limits. An area of former manufacturing industry it presents interesting social, environmental and economic considerations. The scheme provides an initial masterplan and architecture concept study. It is based on a review of the approved masterplan feasibility undertaken by another local Brazilian practice. The team developed a new approach which focussed on a landscape strategy encompassing a pedestrian friendly circulation route, a developed public realm with a sensitive treatment to the design of the buildings. These include a hotel and associated services, commercial and retail sector. The proposal utilses the noticeable location but adjusts the original masterplan to relate the programs of sleep, work and play. The 2 Tall buildings unites a rational and flexible office and hotel building, adjusting the block form to create vertical outdoor spaces. Its combines two logics; a street pattern of regular circulation which morphs into the building program and form.
