The crescent plan of the house derives its form from topography and landscape—embedded in its site and analogous to the gentle curvature of the California hills. The dwelling is conceived as an enfolding nest to embrace the family and their habitation of house and landscape, adapting through stages of living—complemented by a recording studio building, designed as ‘origami in a stone box’. The simple volumes, clad in pre-weathered pewter-grey zinc with ethereal translucent fiberglass awnings, recede into the texture of the surroundings. Completed as william bruder architect ltd.
