Competition Skulpturmast, Statnett - Heia2010
Competition entry for high-voltage masts
The sculpture mast marks the interaction between the cables and the
new tower. The intention was to highlight not only their power, but also
the important social task such high voltage lines represent. The cables
are accentuated as integral and reinforcing elements of the sculpture.
High voltage cables are brought together in a vertical position and
joined in a ?magical moment?, before continuing on their lonely journey
through the open country. Their important function is celebrated in the
form of a wind harp in the magnificent landscape. The visual tension
increases in an approximate point of tangency, forming a great portal
that marks the way towards the northern parts of Norway.
The sculpture explores the feasibility and limitations inherent in
the construction of high voltage towers. By stretching the boundaries of
design (without compromising safety), established conventions are
challenged and a unique signal effect occurs.
