The complex concerns three country houses in close proximity to the "Achladies" beach of Skiathos. The steep slope of the land and the orientation towards the sea dictated a parallel, gradually upward arrangement of the buildings in order to ensure unobstructed views from all levels. The two residences are placed one level lower than the access road, while the third is on the floor extension of the other two. As a result, the visitor approaching the project from street level sees only the roofs, pergolas and water surfaces of the buildings.
First architectural element is an external cantilevered staircase which spatially and visually connects the parking level with the first level and the basement. On the first level, the elongated structure of the monolithic volumes creates a linear circulation on the northern side against the background of the stone wall. This stone wall, apart from its support, creates recesses, skylights and encaved rooms; it runs through the two houses and ends oppositely in the two sheltered terraces along which their swimming tanks are located.
Between the two houses on the first level an outdoor concrete staircase, which leads to an intermediate courtyard towards the third house. The linear development continues at this level as well. At the back lies the circulation zone. A linear corridor, along the length of the building, covered with wooden elements, which, in addition to being a space of movement, also acts as a light source, allowing all closed spaces to be airy and illuminated. The main spaces are developed in a linear arrangement parallel to the view. A linear terrace as well as a private swimming pool are located as a further extension.
The proportions of the openings and the breakdown of the main volumes and levels, combined with the earth tones and natural materials such as stone, wood and reeds attempt to shape a new insular scale and image. This new construction, over time, will integrate into the environment while at the same time will be highlighting and framing the view from every point and level.
