Designing for Changing Workstyles
The design for the SJVN office in Delhi stands as a shining example of a future-ready workplace that embodies adaptability and innovation in design, playing a crucial role in accommodating changing workstyles. Nestled in the heart of the city's newest CBD, the 3636-square-meter SJVN office is a testament to thoughtful design. Spread across three plates connected by a central core, its layout responds to its urban context.
Adapting to Evolving Workstyles
With a mandate to design a vibrant workplace to cater to the office's ever-growing capacity, the SJVN office's design takes inspiration from 21st-century modern workplace design principles. It revolves around the idea of collaborative working, making the workspace fit for different uses by different age groups at different times of the day. This adaptability is crucial in accommodating evolving workstyles, ensuring that the office remains functional and relevant in a rapidly changing work environment.
Creating a Collaborative and Lively Work Environment:
The reception, board room, and multi-purpose hall are centrally located and offer panoramic views of Delhi's upscale South Extension neighbourhood. The building's aesthetic is defined by rich materials, vibrant colours, and open layout styles. Wooden ceilings, intricate wall patterns, and marble flooring from Indian quarries in Rajasthan add a touch of elegance and warmth to the space.
With offices operating for an average of 18 hours a day, the design of this workspace seeks to invigorate the environment, breaking away from the monotony of traditional office settings. It engages in a thoughtful dialogue between materials used on walls and floors, creating a cohesive narrative throughout the space. The furniture selection includes real wood on meeting room tables, harmonising with patterned veneer wall finishes and vibrant, patterned carpet flooring. The incorporation of sensor-based lighting adds a dynamic element, ensuring that the workspace remains bright and inviting throughout the day. This attention to detail enhances the visual appeal and contributes to a stimulating and productive work environment. The boardroom, a space utilised for long hours, offers expansive views of the city's green areas, bathing the room in natural light throughout the day. The passageways leading to the offices of the highest dignitaries blend transparency with adjoining workstations, offering a unique ‘Inside Out’ perspective.
Integration of Color Psychology and Ergonomic Principles
The SJVN office was designed to embody colour psychology, where the infusion of colours is a deliberate and thoughtful choice. The harmonious blend of colours goes beyond the visual, reaching into the realm of emotions and experiences. This approach aligns with ergonomic principles and spatial dynamics that prioritise comfort and health, creating an environment that fosters well-being and productivity. The ergonomically designed chairs, featuring recycled leather content, enhance sustainability and add a touch of luxury. Contrasting with the carpet flooring, which boasts the lowest amount of dust retention, the room is easy to maintain despite its heavy use.
A Cultural Fusion in Design
As one steps into the higher dignitary wing of this corporate office, you are greeted by a symphony of art and design that celebrates India's rich heritage. Flanked by ethnic Indian art, the entrance foyer exudes a sense of grandeur and warmth. White cloud ceilings with a touch of warm wooden finish baffle ceilings create a captivating interplay of light and shadow, complemented by patterned lights and organised greens that inspire and uplift.
The artwork adorning the walls represents a beautiful amalgamation of India's diverse cultures. Through Madhubani, Warli, Kangra, and Kalankari styles of paintings, the office showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of regions like Himachal, Nepal, Bhutan, and Uttarakhand. This thoughtful integration of traditional art enriches the space's visual appeal and provides a platform for local artisans to showcase their talent and craftsmanship.
A Blueprint for the Future
The SJVN office serves as a blueprint for the future of workplace design. The office sets a new standard for modern workspaces by embracing adaptability, innovation, and sustainability. As the world navigates the future of work, we must recognise the profound impact that well-designed, adaptable workspaces can have on employee satisfaction, productivity, and overall well-being. The SJVN office stands as a testament to the transformative power of architecture and design in creating spaces that inspire, innovate, and adapt to the changing needs of the workforce.
