BVH designed the new home for this regional history museum in a former 1970’s department store building. The 55,000 SF museum now offers both permanent and rotating exhibits, a large gallery, theatre, archives/research center, collections area, flexible classroom space, conference rooms, gift shop, and offices. Located in close proximity to Sioux City’s art and theater district and other cultural and entertainment venues, the new museum uses state-of-the-art technology, interactive hands-on elements, and awe-inspiring presentation methods to bring the past to life in a variety of formats designed to stimulate diverse visitor interests. Site, building architecture, and exhibitions join together to communicate the spirit of history and make the museum a focal point in the cultural center of downtown Sioux City.
