This single house is located in the small town of Drosia, Greece and was built for a young couple and their two daughters.
Each family is a dynamic, continuously changing and developing unit, its needs being constantly altering through time. Thus, one of the basic issues which were initially addressed was to design a house that could provide multiple qualities of space, in order to host the family’s changing needs.
One of the most important priorities during the design process was to organize the house’s spaces in zones (private spaces, living areas and “formal” spaces) which work as buffers that divide and at the same time connect the various functions of the house. Multiple communal spaces are created, with each space having its own size, location and orientation, in order to be able to host the members of the family under various circumstances and during different hours of the day.
Every architectural element such as the geometry of the building, the multiple verandas around the house, the outdoor covered passageway to the garage, the materials etc. reflects the diversity of the house’s indoor and outdoor space qualities.
The area of the house is 1800 sq ft and its basement which hosts the house’s auxiliary spaces is 1000 sq ft.
